GAC presents Aion V

The Chinese market is again an electric SUV-like richer. GAC adds this Aion V to its delivery range; a car that is available in three versions.

Guangzhou Automobile Group, better known as GAC, launched its all-electric sub-brand Aion in 2018. In the same year, the new department immediately launched its firstborn: the S. Die sedan is now joined by a long-legged of which the brand shows the first photos and from which the first chunks of bite-sized information are immediately available.

The Aion V is an SUV-like vehicle with a length of 4.59, comparable in size to cars such as the Ford Kuga and Mazda CX-5. The wheelbase, however, at 2.83 meters, is a good ten centimeters larger than that of the two SUVs. This of course has to do with the fact that the Aion V is equipped with an electric drivetrain.

In all cases, this electric drivetrain consists of a 184 hp and 350 Nm strong electric motor that drives the front wheels. However, there is more to choose in the battery field. The Aion V will be available with not one, not two, but with no less than three different battery packs. The smallest variant has a capacity of 60 kWh, good for a NEDC range of 400 kilometers. Those who prefer a larger range can opt for a battery pack with a capacity of 70 kWh and even one with a ‘content’ of 80 kWh. With the middle variant, the Aion V should be able to travel 530 kilometers. The largest package gives the SUV a range of 600 kilometers.

The Aion V not only has a relatively eccentrically designed body, work has also been done on the interior. We see a rather minimalistic-looking interior with two ‘fused’ digital displays placed behind the two-spoke steering wheel. Gadget enthusiasts may be excited by the fact that the model can handle 5G and that it also comes with hardware and software with which you can go semi-autonomously (level 3) on the road.

GAC has as yet no plans to enter the European market with the Aion sub-brand.
