The Chinese manufacturer Hongqi has pulled the curtain on the final version of the S9, a hypercar to be built in collaboration with an Italian partner.
The Hongqi S9 Concept, which made its world debut at the IAA in Frankfurt in 2019, is officially in a production version. The red S9 in these photos is a plug-in hybrid hypercar designed by none other than Walter de’Silva that Hongqi will be building together with the Chinese-Italian engineering and design firm Silk EV.
Hongqi S9
The Hongqi S9 is a plug-in hybrid whose combustion engine is a V8. Hongqi previously announced that the eight-cylinder has a capacity of 4.0 liters. That biturbo V8, together with an electric motor, would be good for no less than 1,419 hp. Hongqi has a whole line of exclusive S models, cars that each have to be signed by De’Silva. In any case, the S9 is equipped with electrochromatic windows, glass whose degree of transparency can be adjusted, and contains a large number of parts made of carbon fiber. There are three displays in the interior, which means that the co-driver also has a screen for his or her sniff. Hongqi will open the order books this year and says it will build a total of 99 copies.
Hongqi L Concept
But there is more Hongqi news. For example, the company brings a very remarkable study model that goes by the name L Concept. This L Concept is a design study that indicates to a certain extent which design direction Hongqi will take in the coming years. The L Concept is a sleek-lined sedan with striking lighting suicide doors and an equally stubbornly designed rear window. More Hongqi news? Certainly. For example, the company also parks the E-QM5 on the Chinese exhibition floor. This is a 5.04 meter long electric sedan that will go into production as usual. The car was designed by none other than former Rolls-Royce designer Giles Taylor. According to Chinese media, the E-QM5 has a 55 kWh battery and a 136 hp electric motor. The electric sedan is also based on an existing Hongqi model: the H5.
