Kia renews the compact SUV Stonic. A first is the EcoDynamics + version with mild hybrid powertrain. In addition, there are new multimedia, security features and personalization options.

When the Stonic is renewed, Kia replaces the so-called ‘Kappa’ engines with Smartstream units. They also have 1.0 liter capacity, direct turbo injection and a power of 100 or 120 hp; however, they are more economical, offer more torque, have CVVD and are linked to a 48V MHEV system. The Continuously Variable Valve Duration (CVVD) allows the engine to seamlessly switch between different combustion cycles, optimizing efficiency in all driving situations.

The Mild Hybrid System (MHEV) consists of a 48 Volt lithium-ion polymer battery and a Mild Hybrid Starter Generator that supports the gasoline engine. During the deceleration, the MHSG recovers energy. When accelerating, it releases power so that the fuel engine is less taxed and emissions are lower.

Also new is the iMT, the intelligent six-speed manual gearbox. With this ‘clutch-by-wire’ transmission, the engine is switched off earlier when rolling out. Just like the optional 7DCT dual clutch automatic transmission, the iMT ‘sailing’ is also possible, up to 125 km / h. Thanks to these gadgets, petrol is saved and less CO2 is emitted.

Many customization options

Apart from the new full-LED headlights and redesigned 16-inch alloy wheels, you don’t really see that Kia has updated the Stonic. But the options for ordering have increased enormously. New paint colors, contrasting colors for the roof, infotainment options and safety systems – you can now give the Stonic even more individuality.

We mention the multimedia with 8 inch touchscreen, where the ‘Phase II’ UVO Connect is equipped with Bluetooth multi connection (simultaneous use of two mobile devices) ‘; the On-Board Services with online speech recognition and navigation based on historical traffic data and real-time data from the cloud; the automatic emergency braking system that recognizes other vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists; and the automatically accelerating, braking and steering Lane Following Assist.

All specifications and prices will be announced in the run-up to the market introduction. The new Stonic will be available at Kia dealers in mid-September.
