We’re going to race again! The 2022 Formula 1 season will start this weekend in Bahrain. Formula 1 can be followed live via the Viaplay app, but how do you get the image to the TV? We mention four ways.
Watch Formula 1 on TV with Viaplay
Formula 1 is gone from Ziggo, and the races can now be viewed at Viaplay. For the streaming service you temporarily pay 9.99 per month. In addition to Formula 1, Viaplay gives you access to Bundesliga football, PDC darts, movies, series and more.
There are several ways to stream the image from the Viaplay app to the television.
Chromecast
With a Chromecast you can easily stream Formula 1 to your TV. This works with a smartphone, tablet or computer. Make sure your Chromecast and device are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Then do the following:
- Open the Viaplay app;
- Play the Formula 1 broadcast;
- Tap the Chromecast icon at the bottom right;
- Select the name of your Chromecast.
Don’t see the Chromecast icon? Make sure your devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Once connected, close the Viaplay app and open it again. Doesn’t this help? Reset the Chromecast by pressing and holding the Chromecast button for about 25 seconds.
AirPlay
Do you have an iPhone, iPad or Mac? And do you have an Apple TV box on your TV cabinet, or do you have a recent television that supports AirPlay? Then you can stream Formula 1 with AirPlay. Make sure both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Streaming Formula 1 works as follows on iPhone and iPad:
- Open the Viaplay app;
- Play the Formula 1 broadcast;
- Tap the cast icon (square with triangle) at the bottom right;
- Select the name of your Apple TV or television.
You can also stream Viaplay via your Mac. Navigate to the Viaplay website and log in. Play the F1 match and click the button with the two sliders to open the Control Panel. Then choose ‘Synchronous display’ and click on the name of your Apple TV or television.
smart tv
Some smart TVs have a Viaplay app. In this way you open Viaplay directly on your television and the intervention of an iPhone, iPad or other device is not necessary.
The Viaplay smart TV app is available on the following TVs:
- Samsung smart TVs from 2016 or later.
- LG smart TVs from 2016 or later.
- Android TVs from Sony, Philips and TLC.
Watch Formula 1 on TV via HDMI cable
Don’t have an Apple TV, no Chromecast and your television doesn’t support AirPlay or Viaplay app? Then there is another option to send the Viaplay image to the television: via an old-fashioned HDMI cable.
First make sure you play Viaplay on your laptop. You do this by navigating to the Viaplay website and logging in. Play the race. Then connect your laptop to your TV. Use the HDMI port, USB-c connection, or Mini DisplayPort for this. Then press the source button on the TV remote and navigate to the correct channel.
