Tip: This is how you connect AirPods to your iPhone, iPad, Mac and other devices

The big advantage of the wireless AirPods is that you can easily connect them to your new iPhone, iPad and Mac. If you have an older model, you will have to go through a few steps. We explain how AirPods pairing works, regardless of the device you want to connect to.

Link AirPods to all your devices

Since the AirPods support iCloud, it is very easy to automatically connect them to all devices linked to your iCloud account. This way you can immediately start listening on your iPhone, iPad and Mac.

If your device does not support Handoff, you can still pair it with AirPods, but it takes a little more effort. You will also have to pair older MacBooks and iMacs that do not support Handoff in this way. You can connect AirPods to older Apple devices or other smartphones and tablets in four steps.

How to connect AirPods to all your devices

  1. Make sure the AirPods are in their case.
  2. Open the case without leaving the AirPods out.
  3. Press the small circular button on the back of the case until the LED light in the case turns white and starts blinking.
  4. On your device, find the AirPods via the Bluetooth menu and pair them as you would other Bluetooth devices.

The AirPods from Apple are clearly intended for Apple devices, but with the above step-by-step plan you can also simply connect them to an Android smartphone or tablet. Keep in mind that you will obviously not be able to control Siri at that time, as it is not present on the linked device.
