Many people put their iPhone upside down in their pocket. And that makes sense too, because it is the most ‘natural’ movement to put it away. Yet there are good reasons to run the iPhone.
iPhone with its connection down
If you are right -handed and wear your iPhone in your right pants bag, it feels quite logical to put it upside down in your pocket. You hold it with your right hand, and as soon as you put it away, you naturally turn it. The speaker holes also point upwards, as well as the Lightning or USB-C connection. This is particularly useful if you want to listen to music, both directly through the speakers of iPhone itself or wired with headphones. And if you take your phone out of your pocket, you also immediately hold it in the right orientation.
At first glance it sounds very wise to put your iPhone in your pocket in this way, just like my colleague Piet-Jan does. And yet there are quite some reasons not to turn your iPhone before you put it in your pocket.
Reason 1: You wear your iPhone in your left pants bag
Above we were very conscious about wearing your iPhone in your right pants bag. If you wear it on the other side while you are right -handed, then that turning your iPhone – so upside down – ensures that you do not immediately remove it from your pocket. You always have to turn it cumbersome so that Face ID is upstairs and the screen points to you. It sounds crazy, but try it out for the joke. Our sample at the office showed that people who wear their iPhone on the left while they are right -handed in the right advantage of putting him down in the pocket with the connection.
Reason 2: The connection remains dust -free
There was some discussion about this within the editors, but again the sample brought clarity within the entire company. People who carry the iPhone with the connection upwards often suffered from charging problems due to a clogged lightning or USB-C port. There may be dust and fluff in your pocket, but apparently the gravity ensures that more dirt comes the gate. We know that again. Incidentally, it is also so squeezed to clean such a dirty connection. There is even a complete cleaning set for something like that. Whether you opt for protection, that is also possible.

Reason 3: Your wallet cards are safe
Do you use an Apple card holder on the back of your phone? Even then it might be smarter not to turn your iPhone before you put it in your pocket. The passes otherwise point down, so the risk that they will fly out unintentionally is present. And guessing three times: that does not happen if it is in your pants with the connection. Another reason to go for ‘connection-to-have’.
Reason 4: It’s nice retro
Another reason to put your iPhone in your pocket down in your pocket: you show that you have been an iPhone user for a while. Up to and including the 4S, the iPhone had the headphone connection at the top and it was completely logical not to put it upside down in your pocket. Only with the iPhone 5 did the ‘Headphone Jack’ move to the bottom of the phone, and it was suddenly more logical to put it upside down in your pocket.
How do you wear your iPhone?
And what do you do? Do you wear your iPhone in the left or right pants bag? Upside down or not? With the screen inside or out? (We would be at the latter iPhoned By the way, a whole article to be able to devote it.) Let us know in the responses.
