Barrels along Joep, electric convertibles and ‘streamline SUVs’
You can buy AutoWeek 34 from Wednesday in the store or expect it in your mailbox this week. In this issue we pay attention to two small electric convertibles, we say goodbye to the BMW i3 and go through the barrels of Carrec for a critical look from judge Joep.
Although the summer is already a bit in its twilight, we still serve you a nice sunny test. Open and electric driving is even virtually impossible, but it is precisely at the bottom of the EV market that we find the two exceptions to that rule. We are of course talking about the Smart EQ ForTwo Cabrio and Fiat 500e Cabrio.
Also electric but of a completely different order are the Volkswagen ID5 and Volvo C40 that compete against each other. Apart from their electric drive, they have something in common: they both have a sloping roofline. There are also models with very similar brothers, the ID4 and XC40. What is the distinctive character?
While we welcome numerous electric cars, the curtain falls for one of the most important pioneers of the EV. The BMW i3 is no more. That of course calls for a look back, because it was such a special thing.
Tired of all that electrical stuff? Then we would like to point you to the occasion pages in AutoWeek 34. It is time for the most feared part by the barrelers: the barrels are turned inside out by judge Joep Schuurman of Carrec Technocenter. Now we sometimes come across really bad cars at the regular Klokjes Rond, but now it gets very colorful.
Finally, there is also a new episode of Op de Rollenbank this week. We have a potent little one as our guest; a real Ford Fiesta ST from 2006. It has a 150 hp 2.0 in its nose with only 139,000 km of experience. Surely such a low setting must guarantee a good result? It is up to Ghisbert van Ginhoven to do the hot hatch to feel the tooth.
AutoWeek 34 will be in stores this week from Wednesday. Would you rather not go out? Order from the lazy chair the latest number. Then it will be delivered to your doorstep within two working days.
