On the Mecum Auctions’ Las Vegas Motorcycles 2025 Auction, a 1915 Cyclone Boardtrack Racer for the record amount of $ 1,320,000 was sold. It is the first time that an engine has been sold at an auction for more than $ 1 million.
The 1915 Cyclone was part of the Urban S. Hirsch III collection and was restored by Stepen Wright. The Boardtrack Racer was based on the 1915 Cyclone Model 7, C-15, which at the time sold for $ 250, which would be around $ 7,765 in the present time.
The Cyclone was powered by a 1,000cc 42 degrees V-twin with a top power of almost 45 hp. The valve drive had a stoter rod in every cylinder that controlled an overlying camshaft. Timperers served the valves, which had a nickel valve stem and a cast -iron seat. The inflammation came from a waterproof Bosch Magneto. The speed gearbox had an Eclipse coupling that the rider could operate with a lever or foot pedal.
The bicycle part had a rigid ‘hardtail’ back, while the front was sprung through a swing construction and a five -leaf Vanadium steel spring. Comfort for the rider was obtained by a springy saddle. The only braking system was a six-inch drum behind. The 28-inch wheels were originally provided with tires of Goodyear of Firestone.
Mecum Auctions auctioned the Cyclone on 1 February for the record amount of 1.32 million dollars. The previous highest auction price for a motorcycle was two years ago, when a 1908 Harley-Davidson Strap Tank on Mecum Auctions’ Las Vegas Motorcycles 2023 was auctioned for $ 935,000.
