Always wanted to have a real classic, preferably with few kilometers on the clock. At Iconic Motorbike Auctions, a 1992 Kawasaki ZXR750R is currently up for auction, with 0 kilometers on the clock. In fact, the engine is still new in the crate and has therefore never been assembled. You must have a well-filled cut, the current bid is $43,100.
We are not surprised that a lot of money is put on the table for an RC30, or for an OW01, after all, these bicycles were only produced in a limited edition and, moreover, at that time they already had a hefty price tag. More than 30,000 guilders had to be paid for the RC30, where the OW01 with 45,000 guilders was one of the most expensive production engines at the time.
Both bikes were developed by Honda and Yamaha purely as homologation models for the World Superbike Championship. In 1991 Kawasaki followed exactly the same path and launched the ZXR750R alongside the then completely redesigned ZXR750, as a homologation model for that World Superbike Championship.
The ZXR750R was recognizable by its single-seater butt, but the main differences were hidden under the skin. With a top power of 120 hp, the ZXR750R was no less than 20 hp stronger than the standard ZXR750, which was actually underpowered at 100 hp. This was achieved by hotter camshafts and 39mm flatslide carburetors, the cream of the crop in the carb era.
Kawasaki had also fitted the ZXR750R with a close ratio gearbox and another item that immediately identified the bike was the aluminum fuel tank – a very unique feature at the time. The real connoisseurs will also recognize the R-version by the round hole in the right fairing, provided to adjust the flatslide carburettors. The fairing part of the ZXR750 does not have a hole there because it does not have a flat slide but constant vacuum carburetors.
The ZXR750R now up for auction is built in 1992 – the second and last year it would be produced. The bike is still brand new in the crate and that is the reason why the current bid is $43,100. However, that also means that this brand new 1992 ZXR750R will never leave this crate, once it has been assembled it has lost a significant part of its value.
If you are nevertheless interested: the auction closes in 2 days. Keep in mind that it is now in Santa Monica and you will therefore also have to ship it here. Unless of course you already live in California…
