The 1More Evo wireless in-ears are the most striking that I have had the opportunity to review so far. Interest is already aroused when opening the box, which is an experience in itself. It is mainly the ears themselves that stand out. With the oval pearl-like inside it looks like you are putting a piece of jewelry in your ear. But as with all jewelry, whether it appeals to you or not is very subjective. Anyway, it is certainly striking.
The ears also have a bit of a crazy build. On the one hand compact, but also a bit thick. Nevertheless, 1More manages to achieve excellent wearing comfort. That is now a quality with which the brand always scores. The low weight is well distributed and the ears go deep in the ear, making them stable and close well. In addition, you can change the rubber tips to adjust them to size and you have many tips at your disposal.
This means you can actually use the earphones for all purposes. On the road, at work, but also during (sports) activities.
Good sound
Despite their size, the Evo earphones have excellent sound quality. A plus is that the earphones also support the LDAC Bluetooth codec. This codec ensures the best possible Bluetooth sound quality. The earphones provide a full and detailed sound. So there is quite a bit of emphasis on the bass tones. Nice for exciting music, but also for more complex music, enough sound details are preserved.
There are three play modes: normal play mode, noise reduction and transparent mode that allows ambient noise to pass through. Although the sound quality is certainly a striking plus, the same cannot be said about the noise canceling and transparent mode. The good fit of the earphones block a lot of ambient noise, noise reduction seems to add little to that. Ambient Sound Mode lets you be a little more aware of your surroundings, but that’s all.
The battery life is also somewhat unremarkable. About seven hours in normal playback mode. Five to six hours with transparency or noise reduction on. The charging case has enough capacity to fully charge the earbuds four times. You can quickly charge the charging box via the USB-C connection or charge wirelessly.
app
The companion app from 1More (for android and iOS) gets better with each update. But here and there there is certainly still a bug or translation error. It is less polished than the apps from Samsung and JBL and their accompanying earphones, for example.
Nevertheless, it is worth installing it. First of all, to make sure that the highest possible sound quality (LDAC) is on. But also, if desired, to configure the tap control and sound adjustment. You can also update the earphones or play relaxing soundscapes in the app.
There is also a new function: SoundID. This allows you to personalize the sound adjustment. A smart addition, although this could also be finished a little better.
Alternatives to the 1More Evo
What makes the 1More Evo unique is its design, which will certainly appeal to certain people. The earphones will certainly not disappoint. But for the suggested retail price of 169 euros, you can also buy good in-ears from reliable brands such as Sony and JBL. In terms of sound quality, the 1More earphones are audibly better. Sony’s LinkBuds S, on the other hand, also have good sound quality and offer better noise reduction and transparency mode.
Although the 1More Evo has a lot to offer for its price and therefore will not disappoint, the purchase is a challenge. Belsimpel often offers earphones from 1More, but at the moment they are only available from Amazon.
Conclusion: buy 1More Evo?
The unique design, great fit and good sound quality make the 1More Evo simply excellent earphones, no matter what you use them for. The noise reduction, transparency mode, app and battery life are in order, but do not leave an indelible impression.
