The iPhone app is finally for everyone to download. To get the most out of what we have put in, this article provides some practical tips.
Check the iPhoned app tips
Since yesterday you can also read the articles from iPhoned in a full iOS app. This is equipped with a number of useful (and fun) extras, which we explain to you in this tip article. This way you know exactly what and how to get started with all parts of the app.
1. Set up the iPhone widget
The iPhone app is always nearby, even if you have not opened the app itself. This is due to the handy widget, which you can easily add to your list of other widgets. You do this as follows:
- Unlock your iPhone and swipe from right to left on your screen;
- Scroll all the way to the bottom of the widget screen, tap Edit;
- Select the IP app in the widget screen and tap the green plus sign;
- Use the three dashes to position the IP app;
- Tap Done.
In the widget you can choose to display only the last post, or the last four articles. You do this by tapping ‘Show more’ or ‘Show less’ on the widget screen.
2. Automatically switch between Day and Night mode
You already saw it while setting up the app, but we have put a handy day and night mode in the iPhoned app. You can activate the mode manually, although it is of course better if the app does this independently. You do this by going to Day and night mode in the settings and tapping ‘Auto’. Here you then indicate at what time the night mode switches to day mode and vice versa.

3. Receive a weekly or daily update
Since we don’t want to overwhelm you with notifications, we’ve added multiple choices when it comes to notifications. If you go to the settings and tap on ‘Notifications’, you will be presented with four choices. Here you can also see the daily and weekly overviews. Every day at 9 p.m. we send a daily overview with everything we discussed on iPhoned that day. We also make a weekly overview every Sunday at 4:00 PM with only the best from Apple.
Would you rather not receive notifications, but are you curious about these overviews? Then you can also look them up yourself by opening the menu in the app and tapping ‘Overviews’.
4. Send a news tip to the iPhoned editorial staff
Have you accidentally seen an iPhone 8 somewhere, or have you made an app that you want to show us? Then we are always available via the built-in tip function of the iPhoned app. As long as you’re using Apple’s built-in mail app, all you have to do is tap ‘tip the editor’ in the main menu. The message you compose there will then be sent directly to our mailbox.
5. Add a Star to an article and find it later
Do you come across an article or tip that you want to easily find later? Then it is best to mark it with a star. Each article has a star icon in the top right corner. By ticking this box, the article will immediately be placed in your overviews with favorites. You will find this via the main menu behind the icon with the yellow star. This is useful, for example, if you use the search function to find an older article, which you always have ready in this way.
