600 million euros to boost sales of used electric cars

The cabinet is investing hundreds of millions of euros to stimulate the purchase of electric cars in the Netherlands. This is reported by RTL Nieuws on the basis of unspecified sources. ANP reports that Hague sources confirm that the money is intended to boost the sale of used electric cars.

Striking and intense news. RTL News writes that the cabinet will invest no less than 600 million euros in the coming years to stimulate the sale of electric cars in the Netherlands. Exactly how those hundreds of millions will be spent is not entirely clear at the moment. ANP reports that sources in The Hague confirm after reporting by RTL News that a new subsidy scheme is being prepared. It would mainly focus on stimulating the sale of second-hand electric cars.

The current SEPP subsidy scheme was initially planned to end after 2024. It already appears that the part of the SEPP subsidy pot that is intended to stimulate the sale of used electric cars is running out faster than the part that is intended for the purchase of new EVs.

It has also emerged that petrol will be an average of one cent more expensive per liter next year because biofuels are added to the petrol. The bpm also goes up, but it is not doubled, as previously thought. The purchase tax on new cars would increase by about €200.

But there’s more. According to RTL Nieuws, the cabinet has 90 million euros ready for the coming years to expand the charging network for electric cars in the Netherlands. In addition, the cabinet has brushed aside the plan to oblige leasing companies to offer only fully electric cars by 2025, writes RTL Nieuws. Instead, companies are obliged to save CO2 on mobility themselves. How? They can interpret that themselves.

It is understandable that the government is investing a lot of money in making electric cars more accessible. Various studies have shown that the average Dutch person still finds electric cars too expensive.
