70 years of Orient mechanical watches

Orient is one of Japan’s major watch manufacturers. Yet the brand is unfortunately relatively unknown in the Netherlands. As far as we are concerned, it is therefore time – in the year that Orient has existed for 70 years – to put their extensive collection of mechanical watches in the spotlight.

Orient has been Japan’s market leader in automatic movements since 1950

The watch brand Orient was founded in 1950, but the history of the company goes back even further, to 1901. The Tama Keiki Company specialized in the manufacture of clocks and sensitive measuring instruments. The experience the company had built up with this was taken into account in the development of the mechanical Orient timepieces. It is therefore not surprising that the brand is known for the reliability of its products. Orient is still at the forefront of timeless watch design and technology in an era of industrial mass production.

Modern, classic and sporty

The Orient collection can roughly be divided into three categories: modern, classic and sporty. The most famous watch lines are the Mako diving watches and the classic Bambino series. Other core collections are the elegant Classic, the Sun and Moon and the Contemporary Small Seconds with Semi-Skeleton.

Functional and accurate diving watches

Lovers of classic diving watches have a wide choice at Orient, because these automatic diving watches look like a diving watch should look; With sturdy luminescent hands and indexes and a rotating dive bezel that is knurled for extra grip.

Special functions and openwork dials

When you make beautiful timepieces, it is actually a shame to hide them under a dial. The Open Heart watches from Orient give you a look into the heart of your watch. There is an opening in the dial through which the moving parts are visible. Really a watch type for the enthusiast! Even more special are the watches that contain a sun and moon phase window as an extra function. To make this possible, a complex and precise timepiece is required. But in addition to being a very special watch function, it is also very nice to see.

Orient Star: Orient’s top watches

Orient Star has been Orient’s premium line since 1951. These watches contain a 46-F6 or 46-F7 movement. Two of the world famous timepieces manufactured in-house by Orient. The cases of the Orient Star watches are also very special. They are polished ‘Zaratsu’. A special technique, in which the metal is polished in such a way that it optimally reflects the light. It takes years for the master craftsman to master this technique and you can see it in these watches!
