Tesla is adjusting its plans for battery production in Europe. No complete battery packs will be built in Germany anyway. The production of the battery cells will take place in the home country of the United States.
Tesla initially planned not only to build cars in Grünheide, Germany, but also to build batteries. Tesla would produce complete battery packs there, but that party is canceled, reports Reuters. Part of the battery production will take place in the United States. The reason: the so-called Inflation Reduction Act from President Joe Biden. This makes it fiscally more attractive for Tesla to set up battery production in its own country.
The plan is now as follows: the battery cells are produced in the United States, only battery packs are assembled in Germany. However, the German battery factory will make parts for the battery cells, such as electrodes. A less extensive package of tasks for the Germans than originally expected, but according to the local economy minister, no jobs will be lost due to the changed plans. It undoubtedly means that the production of the Teslas in Germany involves more parts transport than originally intended.
