€100 fine

Here in the Netherlands it is no problem at all to use an app that warns you about speed cameras, but it is not allowed in Germany. Even passengers are not allowed to use flash apps, a German judge rules.
If you want to avoid speeding fines, you can use a flash app such as Flitsmeister. After all, this is still allowed in the Netherlands. If you then drive into Germany, you will not notice anything else except for a ‘welcome to Germany’ message. There, too, you often receive a neat notification if a speed camera, mobile speed camera or average speed check appears on your route. The Germans are not happy about that. In fact, in Germany you are not allowed to use such an app at all.
That was already known, but now the ban goes one step further. On 24Auto we read that someone who was fined for speeding received an extra fine because his passenger used a speed camera app. That would have been discovered at the standing position. The extra fine amounted to €100 and was for the driver. The driver contested the fine, but the judge has now ruled that it was justified. It is therefore extra careful for those who still use flash apps in Germany, although the chance of being caught is of course small. Last summer it appeared that, despite the ban, about half of German motorists still use flash apps.
