With 1.2 million cars in the lead

With a market share of less than 2 percent, Fiat is certainly not a major player in the Netherlands. Stellantis sister brand Peugeot is doing much better in the Netherlands. But within Stellantis, Peugeot is certainly not the largest manufacturer. That is after all Fiat!
Fiat is certainly not what it once was in the Netherlands. In 2022, 5,683 new Fiat cars were registered in the Netherlands, of which almost 80 percent was a Fiat 500. The Panda is in second place within the Fiat ranks with 685 registered units. Fiat also had to rely on commercial vehicles Ulysse (248 units), the 500X (117 units), Tipo (98 units) and Ducato (57 units), although all those models play a role in the margin. In Europe, Fiat scores much better. Last year, with 367,079 cars registered in the EU, Fiat was Stellantis’ best-scoring brand after Peugeot, a success that it of course mainly owes to the 500. However, Fiat Stellantis brother Peugeot had to put up with some distance ahead, Peugeot was namely good for 556,591 registrations in the EU in 2022. What seems? Globally, Fiat is Stellantis’ largest brand. Together with Barth, Fiat sold no less than 1.2 million cars worldwide last year. That is more than the Renault Group or car brand Volkswagen in the EU.
Anyone who is familiar with the international car market and has been following the Fiat news on AutoWeek.nl for some time will undoubtedly know that Fiat has a whole range of models in South America that have been developed for the local markets and that we have all the way in Europe. Not Knowing. Fiat is extremely popular in various South American countries. Fiat, for example, was by far the most popular brand in Brazil with a share of almost 22 percent. Fiat sells the well-known 500e there, but with the Mobi, Argo, Cronos, Strada, Pulse, Fastback and Toro, a whole bunch of cars that were not delivered in Europe. The two pickups Toro and Strada accounted for no less than half of all pickups sold in Brazil in that country.
But not only in South America is Fiat doing well. In Turkey, for example, it managed to claim almost 19 percent of the automotive sales pie last year. Especially thanks to the Tipo. The Tipo built in Turkey – which will soon disappear from the market in the Netherlands – is the best-selling passenger car there. In addition, the 500 and Panda in Europe together accounted for 44 percent of the total number of A-segment cars registered in 2022.
