Replacing Wörthersee
It was recently announced that the famous GTI Treffen at the Wörthersee in Austria is a thing of the past. Volkswagen is therefore now taking matters into its own hands.
Many enthusiasts of sporty Volkswagens had a bitter pill to swallow earlier this month: it’s over and out for the GTI Treffen at the Wörthersee. In short, the local municipality thinks the event no longer fits its green ambitions, although the large scale and possible nuisance will undoubtedly also have played a role in bringing about a ban. Anyway: the fans of GTIs and other thick Volkswagen stuff should look for something else. Well, not anymore: Volkswagen itself comes to the rescue.
Volkswagen reports that ‘the GTI is coming home’. That is to say: the GTI Treffen will take place in Wolfsburg, Volkswagen’s home base, from 2024. “Our GTI fans are very important to Volkswagen and therefore an exchange with them is very dear to us,” explains Imelda Labbé, co-responsible for sales, sales and marketing at Volkswagen. “After the GTI Meeting at Lake Wörthersee was unfortunately cancelled, we decided quite quickly to offer the GTI fan community in Wolfsburg a new home for the event. We also want to take the ideas of the fans into account when planning the event , because it should be a meeting for them.” It is not yet known when the first GTI Treffen in Wolfsburg will take place next year. The Wörthersee-Treffen were always on the Ascension weekend.
