Ambitious

Volkswagen adjusts its goals. By 2030, 80 percent of the cars it sells in Europe must have a fully electric powertrain.
In 2021, Volkswagen announced that it will stop selling cars with combustion engines in Europe between 2033 and 2035. At the time, the Germans set the goal of having about 70 percent of the sales mix in Europe consist of purely electric cars by 2030. That percentage is now being adjusted upwards to no less than 80 percent. Thomas Ulbrich – head of Volkswagen’s New Mobility – says this to the German Automobilwoche.
Volkswagen still has a long way to go to meet its EV sales target. It currently sells the recently revamped ID3, the ID4 and ID5, and the ID Buzz. But more new electric models are in the pipeline. For example, the brand will introduce an electric equivalent of the Passat called ID7 and will launch a compact electric car in 2025 that will be one step below the ID3. Furthermore, the Tiguan seems to be getting a fully electric variant.
