Gross business drivers do not receive enough mileage reimbursement

More than 80 percent of business drivers receive too little mileage reimbursement. This is reported by the Association of Business Drivers (VZR) on the basis of a poll among members and visitors to its website.

With effect from 1 January 2023, the untaxed mileage allowance was increased from €0.19 to €0.21 per kilometer after seventeen years. In 2024, another euro cent will be added to this, but for many, that mileage allowance is nowhere near covering it. The Association of Business Drivers (VZR) calculated earlier this year that a tax-free mileage allowance of €0.31 would be a more realistic allowance for an average middle-class car. The tax-free allowance of €0.21 would also not cover an employee who uses a car from the smallest class for business kilometers. Research among VZR members and visitors to its website now shows that no fewer than 84 percent of business drivers do not receive a comprehensive mileage allowance.

VZR reports that a poll shows that only 16 percent of respondents receive a tax-free mileage allowance of €0.31 or higher. The remaining 84 percent is therefore below that. And 23 percent of the respondents even indicate that they do not even receive €0.21 per kilometer. About half indicate that they do receive a tax-free kilometer allowance of €0.21.
