The SUV is king, the station wagon is passé. At least that is the prevailing image in the car world, but things are a bit different in Germany. According to Leaseplan, the two most popular lease cars are the Volkswagen Passat Variant and the Ford Focus Wagon. We also find a striking number of station wagons in the rest of the lease top-10.

In the fleet of Leaseplan Germany, the Volkswagen Passat Variant has a market share of no less than 5.47 percent, which puts the car at number 1. The Ford Focus Wagon – which is called Turnier in Germany – comes in second. After that comes the first SUV, the Ford Kuga. For those who travel a lot in Germany, this outcome should not come as a complete surprise. The Germans still like to drive a station wagon and that also confirms the rest of the lease top 10. It consists successively of the Skoda Superb Combi and Octavia Combi, the Opel Insignia Sports Tourer, the Leon Sportstourer from Seat and Cupra, the Skoda Kodiaq (the second SUV), the Volkswagen Golf Variant and… the Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor.

This makes the Polestar the most popular EV among Leaseplan customers. The leasing company distinguishes between engine variants and lifts the Single Motor version of the same Polestar to second place on the podium. The affordable Dacia Spring comes in third, the Skoda Enyaq in four. Tesla, which is certainly not doing badly in the European sales rankings, does not get further than sixth place in Leaseplan Germany’s EV ranking. There we find the Model 3 Long Range. The Berlin-built Tesla Model Y Long Range finishes in 9th place, just behind the Volkswagen ID4.
