Just as quiet as with a folding steel roof, but still with a soft top

La nuova dolce vita. Ferrari linked that expression to the then brand-new Roma in 2019. That life can also be very sweet, Ferrari proves more than three years later. This is the Ferrari Roma Spider. All the deliciousness of the Roma, but with the sun on your face.
Meet the Ferrari Roma Spider, the fully open version of the Roma whose name is actually wrong. Just like the closed Roma, the Ferrari Roma Spider has a tiny back seat where you can accommodate two minuscule people with some dedication. A Spider is officially a pure two-seater, but since the chance that someone will take a seat in the back of the Roma is just as small as the shape desirable for that adventure, we immediately forgive Ferrari.
Ferrari Roma Spider
We could devote paragraphs to the appearance of the Ferrari Roma Spider, but of course the pictures say more than enough. The Ferrari Roma Spider is the open version of the Roma presented in 2019, so there is also a 3.9 V8 with two turbos in the front of this convertible that sends 620 hp and 760 Nm of eight-cylinder power to the rear wheels. The maximum power is released between 5,750 and 7,500 rpm and that means that the machine likes to be driven high in the revs. Those who allow the sounds of the Ferrari heart to come through like a fixed roof without audio-technical obstacles and give the Roma Spider a full tilt, should be able to accelerate to a speed of 100 km / h in 3.4 seconds. In just 9.7 seconds you have the counters at 200 km / h from a standstill and the Roma Spider keeps on stomping until the speedometer indicates 320 km / h. Switching is just like in the closed Roma with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The Roma Spider with fabric folding roof. That saves space and weight compared to a steel folding roof.
Anyone who sees the Ferrari Roma Spider with the roof closed may notice something striking. The Ferrari Roma Spider has a fabric hood. For the last time Ferrari gave an open model with the front engine a fabric hood, we have to go back to 1969 and to the 365 GTS4. There were of course earlier open Ferraris with the front engine, but they either had a steel folding roof or a removable roof. Speaking of a Ferrari with a steel folding roof: Ferrari also has that in the form of the Portofino. Now that the Roma Spider is here, the Ferrari Portofino (M) has to leave the field, Ferrari confirms to AutoWeek. Back to the cloth roof of the Roma Spider, that is what we are looking for here. The roof can be opened or closed in 13.5 seconds at speeds of up to 60 km/h. According to Ferrari, the acoustic comfort that the roof offers is comparable to that of a steel folding roof. There goes the last bit of the Portofino’s right to exist alongside the Roma and Roma Spider.
Also interesting is the wind screen that Ferrari has developed for between the backrest of the ‘rear seat’. That appears at the touch of a button in the center console. That saves space. The fact that Ferrari attributes relevance to the practical aspect of the Roma is also evident from the loading hatch in the rear seat backrest.
We do not yet have a Dutch price for the Ferrari Roma.
