Market share of EV larger than share of diesel engines

With the government’s future environmental measures, the electric age is approaching faster and faster. As of January 1, 2035, no new fuel-powered car may be sold in Europe. Some car brands are even more ambitious and set this goal earlier.

Research

Research by VZR among its members shows that the market share of EVs in 2022 will exceed the share of diesel engines for the first time. Only 20 percent of the cars are still equipped with a diesel engine and 27 percent are fully electric.

Diesel

Diesels are therefore becoming increasingly unpopular. Looking at this month’s lease top 10, only Peugeot still sells the 2008 in a diesel variant. Conventional petrol driving is still possible with the Ford Focus, the MINI Mini and the aforementioned Peugeot 2008.

MHEV

The mild hybrid variant (MHEV), which uses an electric motor with battery drive to support a normal petrol engine, is available from more brands. Both the Kia Niro, Kia Ceed, Volvo XC40, Ford Focus and the Toyota Corolla are available in this variant.

EV-less

The fact that the choice in the EV segment is increasing can also be seen in this lease top 10. No fewer than seven models are available in a zero-emission variant. The Kia Ceed, Ford Focus and Toyota Corolla are the only models that do not have an EV variant in the price list.

The VZR Top 10 is based, among other things, on the business registrations of the past six months. Base is the cheapest starting price of any model.
