BMW Group: More than half of sold cars will be electric before 2030

The BMW Group has great ambitions in the EV field. It expects that well before 2030, more than half of the cars it sells will have a fully electric powertrain.

BMW Group expects 15 percent of the cars sold by BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce to have a fully electric powertrain. That EV share in total sales should increase significantly in the coming years. For example, the group expects that in 2024 at least 20 percent of all cars it sells will have a fully electric powertrain. In 2025, that share should already be 25 percent and a year later about 33 percent. The brand even expects that well before 2030, more than half will be an EV.

BMW

In the electrical field, the brands of BMW Group are planning a lot. Among other things, BMW will introduce an electric version of the next-generation X2 (the iX2). Furthermore, it has an electric equivalent of the 5 series in the barrel. That i5 will appear just like the new 5 series this year. An i5 Touring will be added in 2024.

New Class

In the second half of 2025, BMW will start production of the first fully EV-developed model of the Neue Klasse at its new factory in Hungary. In 2026 there will also be Neue Klasse models from Munich, from 2027 they will also leave the factory gate in Mexico. The Neue Class will include an alternative to the 3-series and an SUV. Between 2025 and 2027, BMW says it will launch no fewer than six Neue Klasse models. BMW also expects to sell cars with a fuel cell from the second half of this decade. They are probably also on the platform of the Neue Klasse EVs.

Mini

Just like BMW, Mini has a series of new electric cars in the pipeline. For example, the Cooper – the successor to the three and five-door hatchbacks – will be an electric three-door and a fully electric new Mini Countryman will also appear. The arrival of the Aceman is on the roll for 2025, an electric crossover that will be placed below the Countryman.
