Electric Volkswagen ID2 also gets sporty GTX version

Volkswagen will launch the production version of the ID2all Concept in 2025. That smaller electric hatchback will be called Volkswagen ID2 and will also receive a sporty GTX version.

Kai Grünitz, Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen and responsible for Technical Development, tells the English TopGear that Volkswagen is working on a sporty version of the production version of the Volkswagen ID2all. According to Grünitz, it will not have a four-wheel drive, but will simply be a front-wheel drive.

It is quite obvious that a sporty version of the car that will be called Volkswagen ID2 is in the pipeline. After all, cars such as the ID3, ID4, ID5 and even ID Buzz are or will be sportier GTX flavors. In addition, the Volkswagen ID2all Concept was presented with a 226 hp electric motor. That powertrain is undoubtedly a hint to a powertrain that will also be available in the production version, but which is too powerful for the regular versions. With its 226 hp, the ID2 Concept was able to reach a speed of 100 km/h in less than 7 seconds. The current Volkswagen Polo, for which the ID2 will be an electric alternative, has a 207 hp powertrain as a GTI. The Volkswagen ID2 will be on the market in 2025 and – according to Volkswagen – should have a starting price of less than €25,000. According to Kai Grünitz, it is not yet certain whether the sporty version of the ID2 will be called ‘GTI’ or GTX’. The application of the GTX label is the most obvious.
