Mazda joins Japanese research into biofuels

Mazda joins the Research Association of Biomass Innovation for Next Generation Automobile Fuels. Quite a mouthful, but it concerns a research center in Japan that is working on alternative fuels. Toyota is already one of the affiliated manufacturers.

Mazda seems to be anything but planning to wave off the combustion engine completely for the time being. It does want to contribute to alternative fuels, in order to make its fuel cars CO2 neutral after all. Before that, it already joined the European ‘eFuel Alliance’ and is now joining forces with the Research Association, based in Japan’s Okuma. Toyota, Suzuki, Subaru and Daihatsu have already joined this.

The aim of the research association, which was only established last year, is to come up with alternative fuels from biomass, but also to set up an efficient production of bioethanol. It must all take place CO2 neutral. “We will do everything we can to increase the potential of carbon neutral fuels, a promising option for achieving a carbon neutral society,” Mazda said in an official statement. With the light on the European market, it can also be interesting, because there are a last-minute exception has been added to the EU’s 2035 plans for cars that run on synthetic fuels.
