Open farewell party
Whoever thought that Aston Martin was done with the DBS with the arrival of the 770 Ultimate is wrong. The brand is now pulling the curtain on the previously announced Volante version of that farewell edition.
At the beginning of this year, Aston Martin ushered in the last chapter of the DBS with the DBS 770 Ultimate, an extra strong and sporty version of the DBS with – as the name implies – a 770 hp version of the 5.9 V12 in the nose. We then only got to see that spectacular party animal as a coupé, but now the curtain has also been drawn from the open Volante version. As with the closed version, special 21-inch wheels, larger cooling openings, new splitters and a different diffuser provide a bit more visual spectacle than with the regular DBS Volante.
Actually, the Aston Martin DBS 770 Ultimate Volante had no surprises in store for us except for the appearance, although the specifications are certainly worth repeating. We already understood that the Volante takes 3.6 seconds to shoot from 0 to 100 km / h, where the closed version does that in 3.4 seconds. The top speed is the same: 340 km / h. Of course a bizarre speed without a roof over your head. Switching is done with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential distributes the forces over the rear wheels. Carbon-ceramic brakes are on hand to calm down the colossus.
