Older than you think

In Europe, the Nissan X-Trail is just eight months old and already a facelift seems to be on its way. What’s up with that?
In September 2022, Nissan presented the current fourth-generation X-Trail to the European public. The big brother of the Qashqai has been available in the Netherlands since November, but has already populated Nissan showrooms elsewhere in the world. After all, the Nissan X-Trail already had its international debut in mid-2020 in the United States, where the model is known as Rogue. This means that the X-Trail is actually almost three years old and that means that a facelift has been thought about for a long time. These photos show a Nissan Rogue taped to the front and rear, hinting at the arrival of a revised X-Trail for the European market.
The Nissan X-Trail as it is now for sale in Europe.
The complete front bumper and grille of the snapped prototype have been taped off, but we already seem to be able to see something of the new front of the Rogue/X-Trail. It seems very likely that the grille will soon be less far down. We aim for Nissan’s traditional V-motion grille – recognizable by the large V-shaped silver-colored element around the grille – to be less pronounced. Furthermore, the Japanese have a new bumper in stock for the back of the X-Trail, although it is not entirely clear what exactly changes.
Since 2001, Nissan has sold almost 12,000 X-Trails in our country. In 2005 and 2006, the X-Trail – then the first generation – had its peak year. Then 1,429 and 1,418 copies were signed successively. In the first three months of this year, 101 X-Trails were registered in the Netherlands. In the whole of 2022 there were only 98 and in 2021 a total of 118.
