Not yet for PHEV
In the United Kingdom, MG has announced a facelifted version of the very popular MG HS. The plug-in version, and with it ‘our’ MG EHS, remains unaffected for the time being.
We also know the MG HS in the Netherlands, but then as EHS. Here it is only available as a plug-in hybrid, making the EHS the only non-fully electric MG with us. In the UK, MG’s largest SUV is available with a petrol engine only, a 1.5-litre four-cylinder with 162PS. That version is now being facelifted. It is a fairly extensive renewal round with new headlights and a grille completely detached from those lamps, which is wider at the bottom than at the top. The whole is strongly reminiscent of the facelift that the smaller MG ZS received earlier, of course no coincidence.
We don’t have a picture of the rear of the facelifted MG HS yet, but according to MG, a new bumper can be found there. In the interior, everything remains largely the same, but MG treats it to new infotainment. The plug-in hybrid version of the MG HS, which is called ‘just’ MG HS PHEV on the other side of the North Sea, will not be facelifted for the time being.
The strategy chosen by the Chinese SAIC to attack Europe with the MG brand seems to be working in MG’s original homeland. The HS in particular is very popular and even briefly reached number 1 on the British sales rankings earlier this year. Since the HS launched in the UK in 2019, it has already sold 36,000 units.
