Extra busy rush hour expected due to May holiday

It can become extra busy on the Dutch roads and highways at the end of the afternoon and tonight. For many people the May holiday starts and it is traditionally already busy on the roads on Thursday. The weather probably won’t cooperate.

The ANWB expects an extra busy evening rush hour on Thursday because the May holiday starts for many people. Working people often have or take Fridays off and some schools include a study day. This year the May holiday is officially from Friday 28 April to Sunday 7 May. But there are many schools that deviate from that guideline and extend a week’s holiday. The evening rush hour on Thursday is normally already the busiest of the week and holiday traffic is now added to that. Motorists must take extra account of traffic jams towards Dutch recreational areas and abroad. It also seems to be raining, which could increase the traffic jams.

The most delays will occur on Thursday afternoon on the roads from Utrecht to the south, but it will also be busy between Arnhem and the German border. Traffic jams are also expected in North Brabant and in the center of the country. Travelers driving towards the Veluwe can count on delays and it will also be busy between Apeldoorn and Eindhoven.

In the Bollenstreek it will be busy in the coming days due to the Flower Parade. Travelers should also take into account the work on the Heinenoord tunnel, which means that it will close in the direction of Bergen op Zoom from Friday to Monday. The following week, the tunnel was even closed in both directions.
