Groningen people are lucky

Are you a novice driver and do you want to insure your car in The Hague? Then you have to be prepared to pay a lot of money for your car insurance. And not just as a novice driver. The Hague once again appears to be the most expensive city in the Netherlands to insure your car.
Research by comparison site Autoverzekering.nl into the average premium for car insurance in the twelve provincial capitals and Amsterdam shows that The Hague is the most expensive city in the Netherlands for car insurance. On average, residents of The Hague pay €145 more per year for their car insurance than residents of Groningen. When determining the amount of the insurance premium, insurers look at, among other things, the value of the car, the risk of theft, the age of the driver, the number of claim-free years and the risk of damage. “The Hague is relatively speaking one of the most densely populated cities in our country. In addition, car crime is also relatively high in this city. This is also an important factor for car insurers to determine the level of the premiums,” explains insurance expert Jerry Poel from Autoverzekering.nl.
After Hagenezen, residents of Haarlem pay the most for their car insurance on average. Amsterdam is in the top three most expensive cities for your car insurance in third place. Groningen is the cheapest city to insure a car for the fourth year in a row. The average insurance premium of residents of Maastricht has even fallen the most. Maastricht residents pay an average of almost €55 less this year than last year for their car insurance. That is striking. In 2018 and 2019, Maastricht was still the most expensive city in the Netherlands in terms of average insurance premiums, and the number of car thefts in Maastricht increased considerably last year compared to other cities.
As expected, novice drivers in particular are again very expensive. Especially in the Hofstad. In The Hague, new drivers pay more than €130 more per year for their car insurance than the average Dutch person pays for his car insurance. In Groningen, novice drivers pay more than €250 less on an annual basis than novice drivers in The Hague. On average, first-time buyers in the Netherlands pay a monthly premium of €37.61 for their car insurance. Last year, the average insurance premium for starters in the Netherlands was just under €34 per month. To calculate the amount of the average premium for novice drivers, Autoverzekering.nl uses a calculation example in which the driver was born in 1990, has five claim-free years and drives 10,000 kilometers per year in a Volkswagen Golf. Autoverzekering.nl does not provide the year of manufacture of the car in the calculation example.
