Up to 230 kilometers range

MG has presented a new electric model that is directly its cheapest EV. This is the MG Comet EV, a miniscule electric city rascal that, despite modest performance, outperforms the Dutch market.
The delivery range as you know it from MG in the Netherlands is completely different elsewhere in the world. In China, for example, MG sells an arsenal of models that you do not know, it sells a pick-up in Thailand and the brand also delivers closer to home – in the United Kingdom – cars that you cannot order in the Netherlands. The brand is now adding one to that list of banned MG fruits. At least, forbidden fruit, rather a forbidden fruit. This electric MG Comet EV intended for the Indian market is more than half a meter shorter than a Renault Twingo, but it does offer good space for four occupants.
MG Comet EV: seat was in the back!
If you have been visiting AutoWeek.nl regularly for some time and find the more obscure corner of autoland a pleasant place to be, the appearance of this MG Comet EV may look familiar. The MG Comet EV is actually not an MG at all. In fact, we are dealing with an Air EV from Wuling on which MG has pasted its own logos. That’s not very strange. After all, Wuling is a partnership between SAIC, GM and Liuzhou Wuling Motors. SAIC itself has therefore certainly had something to do with the Comet EV. Other striking little ones from Wuling are the extremely successful Hongguang Mini EV, the Nano EV and the larger Bingo.
The original: the Wuling Air EV.
Up to 230 kilometers range
The Wuling Air EV is available in two lengths, with the 2.6-metre short version having a wheelbase of 1.64 meters and offering space for two occupants. The MG Comet EV is the longer four-seater version that stretches for a modest 2.97 metres. It is 1.51 meters wide, 1.64 meters high and has a wheelbase of 2.01 meters. The Comet EV stands on 12-inch wheels, has disc brakes at the front and drums at the rear. For a pocket-sized EV, the Comet EV still has quite a bit to offer. It has a 42 hp and 110 Nm strong electric motor and a 17.3 kWh battery that helps the Comet EV with a range of up to 230 kilometers. With the 3.3 kW on-board charger, an empty battery pack can be charged up to 80 percent of its capacity with power in 5.5 hours.

Standard packed
And what about the equipment? This doesn’t seem wrong either. The electric MG’tje has a dashboard with a 10.25-inch instrument panel and an equally large digital instrument panel. The two screens are housed in one panel. MG supplies cheerful stickers and various paint colors that give the EV more than 250 appearances. The Comet EV will be available in the color combinations Apple Green & Starry Black and Candy & White and Starry Black and is also available in black, white or gray only. Two airbags are standard, the same goes for ABS, three-point seat belts in the front and rear, two airbags, Isofix attachment points and even a reversing camera and parking beepers are standard equipment. More standard indulgence comes in the form of central locking, Keyless Entry, power windows in the front, air conditioning, three USB sockets, mirrors in the sun visors for both the driver and co-driver and even a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Then the price, which is as modest as the size of the Comet EV. The starting price of the MG Comet EV in India has been set at €8,815. Would you like to see the Comet EV in the Netherlands for that money? In any case, the electric Stormtrooper helmet is a stubborn appearance.
