Reused carriage and battery pack
The British company Inverted launches its first car: a classic Range Rover as resto mod with the electric powertrain of a Tesla Model S. You can order one for 225,000 British pounds (ex. taxes). For that money, Inverted not only reuses the Tesla technology, but also finds a donor Range Rover for you. This makes it a particularly sustainable product.
Inverted isn’t the first UK company to use a classic Range Rover for an ‘electric conversion’. Another company called Lunaz did that before. But where Lunaz released little concrete at the time of its product presentation, Inverted can already describe its product in considerable detail. What seems? It is particularly ‘green’.
If you order an electric classic Range Rover from Inverted, you will not only receive a re-used Range Rover, but also a re-used powertrain and battery pack. The British choose to reconditioned second-hand 80 kWh battery packs from Tesla, together with its electric motors. The Inverted Range Rover is therefore quite fast: 0-100 km / h takes about 5 seconds. Take it easy, you’ll come with the electric Range about 320 km away on a battery charge. Recharging from 20 to 80 percent can be done in 34 minutes, according to the company.
Reuse
The choice to use second-hand battery packs is a conscious one, as founder of Inverted Harry Millington considers sustainability – and preserving classic Range Rovers – to be of paramount importance. With this choice, he suppresses the sustainability issue surrounding electric cars, because the CO2-intensive production process of battery packs is not (directly) necessary.
If you are interested in a ‘sustainable’ Range Rover Classic yourself, you can do so for from 225,000 British pounds excluding taxes. You have to be patient, because each copy is put together separately and requires a waiting period of 12 to 18 months. But then you also have something: the electric Classic is not only smooth, but also has modern technology and large pieces of leather of the least CO2-intensive type – according to Inverted. The carriage is always fully restored before the new and reused parts are placed in and underneath.
The chassis is also modified to handle the extra performance potential, the tires are one size wider and the sound insulation has been revised for extra comfort. Interested, but isn’t such a two-door Range Rover practical enough? If desired, Inverted will look for a four-door coach for you, with or without a long wheelbase.
