Record year despite chip shortage
Toyota Motor Corporation has managed to build more cars than ever before in fiscal year 2022, despite disruptions from the chip shortage. Toyota brand sales were also higher than ever.
Toyota Motor Corporation, which includes the Lexus, Daihatsu and Hino brands in addition to Toyota, has built no fewer than 10.73 million cars in fiscal year 2022. The highest number ever and a growth of 6.6 percent compared to a year earlier. In the fiscal year, which runs from April to March, TMC also built the highest number of cars ever outside Japan: 6.94 million.
There are also records for the Toyota brand. Toyota’s worldwide production stood at 9.13 million cars (+6.5 percent) and outside Japan it was 6.34 million units (+9.2 percent), both more than ever before. More importantly, there were also sales records. Toyota sold a record 9.61 million cars worldwide (+1 percent) and sold more cars outside Japan than ever before: 8.2 million (+1.1 percent). The total sales of the Toyota Motor Corporation amounted to 10.56 million rounded, which is not a record.
