How economical is the Ford Mondeo in practice?

In 2022, Ford finally pulled the plug on the Mondeo model. We got to know the last generation of this mid-sized car in 2014, after which the car was supplied with a large number of petrol and diesel engines. In recent years, the Mondeo was only available as a hybrid. In this article we take a closer look at the fuel consumption of the Mondeo. Is his disappearance a loss for those who like economical driving?

The D segment is dying out in favor of a well-filled C segment. In it we find not only hatchbacks and station wagons, but also many SUV-types. Ford already supplies the Kuga and recently came up with the fully electric Explorer. Today we take one last look at the time-honored Mondeo.

Consumption Mondeo 1.5 EcoBoost

Unlike the new Focus, the 1.5 EcoBoost in the Mondeo is still ‘just’ a four-cylinder model. The engine delivers 160 hp and is therefore positioned between the briefly delivered 1.0 EcoBoost (125 hp) and 2.0 EcoBoost (204 hp). Mondeo drivers with the 1.5 EcoBoost consume an average of 1 in 12.8 (8 l/100 km).

The most economical driver has already entered 112 fill-ups, which means that consumption has been tracked for almost 80,000 km. This, in his own words, sporty driving driver records 1 in 14.9 (6.7 l/100 km). The least economical driver entered only seven receipts, with a consumption of 1 to 9.4 (10.6 l/100 km) remaining below the line. A more representative lower limit is set by this Mondeo Wagon driver. During 12,569 km it recorded a consumption of 1 to 13.1 (7.6 l/100 km).

How economical is hybrid Mondeo?

Little data is available for the hybrid Mondeo, but the two owners who keep track of their car’s consumption score an average of 1 in 18 (5.6 l/100 km). With a practical consumption of 1 to 18.7 (5.4 l/100 km), one of the two hybrids is the most economical petrol Mondeo.

Like the more compact, but significantly newer Ford Focus with three-cylinder 1.5 EcoBoost, the Mondeo EcoBoost is not a particularly economical car. However, the Mondeo is slightly more economical than a Kuga 1.5 EcoBoost with 150 hp, which could be the effect of the more streamlined coach. If you really want to drive economically with a petrol Mondeo, the Hybrid is by far the best choice.
