Statement: ‘Raising traffic fines again is bullying motorists’

Necessary and justified or yet another blow to the motorist?

Statement: ‘Raising traffic fines again is bullying motorists’

Traffic fines will be another ten percent higher next year. This follows an earlier increase in traffic fines of almost 9 percent. It is high time for the following statement: ‘Increasing traffic fines for the second time in a short period of time is a case of ‘bullying motorists’.

This year traffic fines have already risen by 8.6 percent due to inflation and next year the fines for traffic violations will be even more expensive. This was recently revealed in the Spring Memorandum that Minister of Finance Sigrid Kaag sent to the House of Representatives. By increasing traffic fines, the Ministry of Justice and Security contributes to covering the budget deficit. How do you view this as a driver?

Is increasing the traffic fines not more than a good move to prevent, for example, taxes from being increased? Perhaps you are of the opinion that traffic fines should be higher anyway, after all you also have to behave on the road. We can also imagine that raising traffic fines again feels like ‘bullying’ the motorist. After all, driving a car is becoming increasingly expensive in the Netherlands.

In short: we are very curious how you view the announced new increase in traffic fines. To be clear: the statement does not necessarily reflect the opinion of the AutoWeekeditorial. The proposition:

Raising traffic fines for the second time in a short period of time is a case of ‘bullying motorists’.

You can add explanations and arguments in the comments. As always, your opinion does not have to be someone else’s. We should all be on AutoWeek.nl because we have a thing for cars, so be a little sweet but above all respect each other and try not to let yourself be drawn out too much.
