Until 2019, the LaCrosse was the largest sedan that Buick delivered in its home country of the United States. The Lacrosse no longer exists, but is still happily being built in China. Now there is a completely new one!
Lacrosse, isn’t that a sport? Sure, but if you write it down a little differently, it’s also a Buick. The chance that you will bump into a LaCrosse in the Netherlands is not that great, although Buick has had a LaCrosse in its range for almost 20 years. The first generation appeared in 2004. A 5 meter long sedan that went through life in Canada as Allure and that saw the light of day to replace two models – the Century and Regal. Although new Regals later appeared based on ‘our Insignia’, Buick stuck to the LaCrosse. followed in 2004 generation two on an extended version of the base of the first Opel Insignia. In 2015, the last generation LaCrosse appeared on the stage. That again roughly 5 meters long sedan stood on a longer variant of the platform that you found under the last Insignia. In the United States, the LaCrosse has been discontinued since 2019, but it was allowed in China, until now. There is a new one!
The outgoing Buick LaCrosse: the Insignia’s big brother.
The new Buick LaCrosse was developed by the joint venture SAIC-GM for the Chinese market and will therefore no longer come to the United States. The new sedan is clearly drawn according to Buick’s new design language and that gives the LaCrosse its own appearance, especially at the front. It measures a few millimeters in length after 5 meters and has a wheelbase of 2.91 meters. Striking is the relatively short and steeply sloping sedan butt. Now a LaCrosse signature. Buick places a wall-to-wall display with a diagonal of no less than 30 inches on the dashboard of the LaCrosse. It is not just a screen, but a real curved 6K display with, if we are to believe the Chinese, fast-calculating Qualcomm Snapdragon chip. Will the LaCrosse get big petrol engines? No, Buick takes it modestly and spoons 180 hp and 230 hp 1.5 and 2.0 turbo engines into the sedan.
Buick LaCrosse.
Incidentally, Buick has also developed a series of EVs especially for the Chinese market, including a brand new one. It is therefore not the first time that Buick has paid extra attention to the Chinese market. In China, the brand even has a great preference for … MPVs.
