After announcing the scooter for summer 2023 at Milan’s EICMA last year, Honda has now officially launched the first of at least 10 electric two-wheelers by the end of 2025. With the 45 km/h EM1 e: equipped with a replaceable battery, Honda has mainly aimed its arrows at young European riders.

Honda launches EM1 e: electric scooter

After the Yamaha Neo, the Honda EM1 e is the second Japanese electrically powered two-wheeler, which, like the Neo and the Vespa Elettrica, falls into the moped category with a top speed of 45 km/h. The letters EM stand for Electric Moped, the number 1 indicates that this is the first, while e: stands for Honda’s e-mobility range.

In addition to young people, who in the Netherlands are not allowed to ride a moped or moped until they are sixteen, Honda also focuses on the commuter, especially those in urban environments, with the EM1 e. Its claimed range of 41.3 kilometers is more than enough for short trips in the city.

According to Honda, the Honda Mobile Power Pack e: is designed to withstand different temperatures, humidity, impacts and vibrations, and as the name suggests, the battery can be easily removed for convenient recharging at home (or at work) . The 5.3 kilo charger can simply be plugged into the socket and delivers a maximum of 270W.

The Honda Mobile Power Pack e: weighs about 10 kilos according to Honda, which gives us the idea that the distance between scooter and charging point should not be too long. Charging from empty to full takes about 6 hours, from 25% to 75% 2 hours and 40 minutes. According to Honda, the battery can hold more than 2,500 charges.

The electric motor placed in the wheel hub has a power of 0.58kW, with a peak power of 1.7kW. In ECON mode, the peak power is limited to 0.86kW and the scooter has a friendlier throttle response and a lower top speed, which should increase the range to about 48 kilometers.

In terms of the chassis, the EM1 e has: a steel underbone frame, with 31 mm telescopic forks and dual rear shocks, a 12″ front wheel and 10″ rear wheel, a wheelbase of 1,300 mm wheelbase and a seat height of 740 mm. There is 3.3 liters of storage space under the seat, and there is also a storage compartment on the left side of the shell of the cockpit that offers space for a 500 ml PET bottle.

The 2023 EM1 e: is available in Pearl Sunbeam White, Digital Silver Metallic, Matte Ballistic Black Metallic. Price and delivery time is not yet known.
