From one to four
The Solterra is currently Subaru’s only electric model, but it won’t stay that way for long. By the end of 2026, Subaru says it will have four fully electric models in its delivery range.
Subaru says it will expand its EV lineup to four models by the end of 2026. That means that you can expect three new electric models from Subaru within the next three and a half years. Are there compact hatchbacks, sedans and station wagons? No. All three newcomers are crossovers or SUVs, Subaru reports.
Furthermore, not much is known about the electrical newcomers. There are therefore no technical specifications yet. We do know that Subaru will introduce both Toyota-based EVs and ‘more proprietary’ electric models. But it is unlikely that those ‘more own’ models will be placed on a platform that has nothing to do with a Toyota base. ‘More own’ probably means that there will be electric Subarus that do not – like the Solterra – share their body with Toyota models. In any case, we already see a relatively compact EV under a cloth on a teaser plate.
Subaru will soon set up EV production lines at its Japanese Yajima factory. The annual production capacity of that factory must therefore have increased from 100,000 to 200,000 units in three years’ time. From 2028, Subaru wants to be able to produce up to 400,000 electric cars on an annual basis.
