Welcome back, Ebro

Nissan still produces the Navara, but no longer in Spain. With the closing of its Spanish factory, the European adventure of the Navara also came to an end. But… the Nissan Navara still lives on in Spain, but as a fully electric pick-up.
Nissan has not assembled the Navara in Spain since the end of 2021. In May it was announced that Nissan Motor Ibérica – responsible for Nissan production in Spain – would close. Thousands of people lost their jobs and the European-market versions of Nissan’s pick-up came to an end. The Nissan Navara is still produced in Mexico, China and Argentina and assembled in Thailand, among others, but the Spanish Navara book is not yet fully closed. The Nissan Navara returns as a fully electric pick-up with a historically responsible brand name.

The last Nissan Navara.
Ebro. That is the brand name under which the Navara lives on as an electric pick-up. Behind Ebro is a collaboration between the Spanish companies Jaton Racing, Api Brothers, Btech and Nexus Projetes. You can forget those names immediately. We do know that the electric Ebro will run off the line in what is now called the D-Hub (Decarbonisation Hub) in Barcelona, which is managed by a consortium of thirty companies. Ebro does not hide the fact that its electric pick-up is ‘just’ a modified Navara with an electric powertrain. By using existing parts and machines, the company should be able to keep costs low. You may know the brand name Ebro from tractors and other commercial vehicles, including the F108 based on the Alfa Romeo F12.
The Ebro must have an electric range of up to 440 kilometers, puts 2,300 kilos in the scale and is up to a not childish 300 hp. That power of 300 hp is for a four-wheel drive variant equipped with two electric motors. Also count on the arrival of milder motorized versions with a single electric motor. The Ebro must be built in large numbers in 2024. The D-Hub should be able to build up to 60,000 cars annually. There are also plans to build another electric commercial vehicle in Barcelona, including by and from Zeroid, which produces an electric Sprinter, among other things.
