Wave goodbye
Mini introduces the swing-out model of its John Cooper Works: a 231 hp ode to the manual transmission. The brand produces 999 units for the European, North American and Mexican markets. It is not yet known whether – and if so, how many – copies will come to the Netherlands.
The next generation of three- and five-door Minis is poised to be introduced, but not before Mini bids farewell to the current iteration. It does, in the case of the most potent John Cooper Works version, with an ode to the manual gearbox: the 1to6 Edition. That is a manual John Cooper Works with a number of unique external features. Under the skin it is a 231 hp John Cooper Works as we already know it, but always manual. Great news, because the ‘JCW’ is currently only available in the Netherlands with an automatic gearbox.
Whether the 1to6 Edition will also be available in the Netherlands is still unclear, however. Mini is building 999 units of the 1to6 Edition, all destined for the European, North American and Mexican markets. The brand builds just as many units of the electric Mini Electric Convertible, but only for the European market, and only 30 of them come to the Netherlands. So there is a chance that we will get even fewer – or even zero – copies of the ‘1to6’.
Only in black
If it comes to the Netherlands, you will soon be able to recognize the 1to6 Edition by its ‘Midnight Black’ metallic paintwork and black details around the grille and windows. The car also gets a gray stripe over its entire length and it always stands on 18-inch black wheels, while you will find some red-black details in the interior.
This coming weekend, the official presentation of the manual Mini John Cooper Works will take place during the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring, after which the car will be delivered to customers from September. Whether it will be the very last manual and extra potent Mini is not yet certain. The next generation – which will always be called Cooper – will initially only be available as an electric car, but will also follow with combustion engines later on. The manual gearbox may return, but that remains to be seen.
Should the John Cooper Works 1to6 Edition come to the Netherlands, assume a price of more than €55,000. The – although equipped with an automatic – currently available, regular JCW costs from €53,890.
