More than a third of the subsidy for the purchase of an electric car has run out

More than a third of the total SEPP subsidy pot available this year to stimulate the sale of new and used electric cars is empty. The part intended to boost sales of second-hand electric cars is now emptying significantly faster than the part reserved for new EVs. This is evident from an analysis by AutoWeek of the figures from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO).

The SEPP subsidy pot, the lid of which was turned off on 10 January, contains an amount of 99.4 million euros. With this, the government wants to stimulate the sale and private lease of new and used electric cars. Of this 99.4 million euros, 67 million euros is intended to make the purchase of a new electric car with a catalog value (tax price) of a maximum of €45,000 more attractive. After all, you can receive a compensation of €2,950 for this. Of that 67 million euros, 22.51 million euros has now been forgiven (33.6 percent).

This means that a subsidy has been applied for for the purchase of 7,630 new electric passenger cars. There is still 44.49 million euros (66.4 percent) left. There is therefore still a budget left for 15,081 new electric cars with a fiscal price of up to €45,000.

Used electric car

Of the 99.4 million euros available this year in SEPP subsidy, 32.4 million euros is available to boost the sale or private lease of used electric vehicles. You can receive a financial incentive of €2,000 on the purchase of a used electric car with an original catalog value of €45,000. Of the 32.4 million euros, 13.02 million euros have now been forgiven. This means that the part intended for the purchase of second-hand electric cars is 40.2 percent empty.

On April 26 – last month – ‘only’ 32.9 percent of the part of the subsidy pot intended for the purchase of used EVs had been allocated. The part intended for the purchase of new EVs was 30.6 percent empty around this time last year. Dutch consumers are increasingly claiming a SEPP subsidy for the purchase of a used electric car. Subsidies have now been applied for for 6,510 used electric vehicles. There is still budget left for 9,690 used electric cars.

If we look at the total SEPP subsidy pot, we see that a budget of 63.87 million euros is still available (64.3 percent) and that a subsidy of 35.53 million euros has therefore been applied for (35.7 percent). The total subsidy pot is now more than a third empty.
