As a Hybrid and as a Plug-in Hybrid

Toyota is coming this year with a completely new generation of the C-HR. The new Toyota C-HR is designed at least as stubbornly as its predecessor and can be seen in action on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife on these brand new spy plates in a revealing sticker sheet.
Toyota injected itself with a striking dose of freshness in 2016. Toyotas would become more lively both in terms of design and technology and with the first generation C-HR that saw the light of day in 2016, it provided the first proof of this. That Coldie High Rider will be followed up this year in a completely new model. The new Toyota C-HR will also be a stubbornly designed crossover again, although we are less surprised in the current times of almost baroque car design. The new Toyota C-HR will make its public debut in a relatively short period of time and today we can show it to you better than ever. At least, the actual car.
Toyota C-HR Prologue (Concept, 2022).
As early as September 2022, AutoWeek surfaced the patent drawings of the brand new Toyota C-HR. Those plates already showed the final production version of Toyota’s new crossover. Toyota has already shown the C-HR itself in conceptual form and not much later sent the first thoroughly packed prototypes. This new set of photos shows the new C-HR in a sleek sticker sheet that leaves little to the imagination. In fact, practically all the shapes, folds and angles of the second generation Toyota C-HR are already visible.
AutoWeek could already show you the new Toyota C-HR in 2022 on a patent image.
Toyota gives the new C-HR a rear light that is placed high in the buttocks. Above the fairly flat rear window we see – just like on the patent plates earlier – a rear spoiler with two higher parts. The rear bumper deserves a mention with its prominent voluptuous shapes, as do the recessed handles in the doors. Also striking is the front with the new Toyota models characteristic C-shaped headlights. We find an interesting detail above the gaping mouth, where the muzzle of the new C-HR is remarkably closed. The curves in the bonnet merge optically into the front wings and the line that runs from there to the rear sinks in slightly at the height of the A-pillar.
Small SU EV Concept (2021): early version C-HR Prologue or smaller separate electric model?
Will there also be a fully electric Toyota C-HR? Not entirely likely, but nothing is impossible. The Small SU EV was among the many study models presented by Toyota in December 2021. That electric design study shows strong external similarities with the C-HR, so it is certainly conceivable that Toyota will come up with an electric version of the C-HR. But is it sure? No. After all, Toyota also comes with the bZ3X, a purely electric SUV brother that is one step below the bZ4X. It is certain that the new C-HR will be available with both hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The new C-HR may already be on Toyota’s new ‘E3 platform’, a modular base that combines parts of the TNGA platform family and of the electric e-TNGA architecture. The powertrain of the new Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid may already give away what you can expect from the plug-in heart of the C-HR.
Toyota C-HR in the Netherlands
The Toyota C-HR is currently available as a 122 hp 1.8 Hybrid and as a more powerful 2.0 High Power Hybrid with a system power of 184 hp. The current model is not available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Since the Dutch market introduction of the Toyota C-HR in 2016, almost 21,500 copies have been registered in the Netherlands. In 2018, the C-HR had its best Dutch sales year. Then almost 4,700 copies found a Dutch home. In 2022, deliveries remained at 2,057 units. In that year, the crossover – just like this year to date – had to tolerate the Corolla, Yaris, Yaris Cross and Aygo.
