Chief engineer
Recently there was the good news for Red Bull that top designer Adrian Newey will stay with the team for years to come. Now there is less pleasant news: chief engineer Rob Marshall has left immediately and is going to McLaren. There he becomes technical director.
Rob Marshall will leave Red Bull Racing immediately, the team has announced. He has worked for Red Bull Racing since 2006, but the 55-year-old Briton will start working for McLaren from the beginning of next year. His departure is a major loss for Verstappen’s team, which came up with some very successful cars thanks to Marshall. “We want to thank Rob for everything he has done for the team over the past 17 years,” said Red Bull team principal Christian Horner. “His work on the cars that gave us four incredible ‘doubles’ in the championship between 2010 and 2013 was truly amazing. He remained a key member of the team in the years that followed.” McLaren is making an important move with this. Marshall’s appointment is essential to becoming a winning team again, according to that team. Team Principal Andrea Stella: “I am incredibly pleased with Rob’s arrival at McLaren. With over 25 years of experience in motorsport, Rob comes to us with a wealth of expertise and experience. Rob’s appointment is one of the fundamental steps to to return to the winning times.” Marshall will start working at McLaren from January 1, 2024 as so-called technical director of engineering and design. Marshall can only start next year because there has to be some time in between when switching to another team. That is why he is resigning his job immediately, so that he can start working at McLaren sooner.
