Coming weekend already
Earlier this year, the famous GTI Treffen at Lake Wörthersee was finally canceled, but luckily for the fans, Volkswagen set itself up as the new organizer. The invitation for the first edition has only gone out late. It will take place next weekend.
Lovers of heavily pimped Volkswagens were confronted with a considerable downer in February: more than 40 years after the first edition, the GTI Treffen at the Austrian Wörthersee is over. Fortunately, Volkswagen announced that same month that it will organize the GTI Treffen itself in its home base Wolfsburg. With the note that the first edition would not take place until 2024.
Apparently there has been a lot of work in Wolfsburg, because suddenly there is the invitation for the first edition, which will take place next weekend. On June 10 and 11 (next Saturday and Sunday) Autostadt will open its gates for the fans. Among other things, forty special GTIs will be exhibited, including special prototypes and one-offs, Volkswagen announced. In addition, there are so-called ‘Fan Drives’, where selected GTI owners can show off their own car to the assembled public. There are special places in the parking lot for the event for those who come with a GTI.
Would you like to go, but does this news surprise you a bit? No problem: you can count on this becoming an annual event, just like the original GTI Treffen. Incidentally, Volkswagen is silent in all languages about a possible TDI Treffen. Apparently our April 1st joke has not given the VW management any ideas.
