Do you like to go on holiday with the caravan, but are you still on the hunt for a new car to tow your mobile home from hot to her? Then be sure to put the Nissan X-Trail on your shortlist. It has been crowned as Tow Car of the Year 2023 by the Camping Champion of the ANWB.
The Netherlands is a real caravan country. We like to go out with the proverbial rut hut, but pulling a caravan is not a pleasant adventure with every car. With the Nissan X-Trail e-Power e-4orce that should be fine in any case. The ANWB has named this SUV as Tow Car of the Year 2023.

The Nissan X-Trail e-Power e-4orce left behind a variety of cars in the annual Towing Car of the Year election – won last year by the electric Hyundai Ioniq 5. Not only did the X-Trail outperform the Tesla Model Y Long Range Dual Motor, but it also overtook the 180 hp Opel Astra 1.6 Hybrid, the Renault Austral E-Tech Hybrid 200, the Mazda CX-5 e-SkyActiv G 165 and the Ford Focus Wagon with 155 hp mild hybrid 1.0. Each automotive candidate pulled a 1,350 kilo caravan. As a condition, the union stipulated that the list price of the basic version should not exceed 55 grand. The Nissan X-Trail e-Power e-4orce remained just below that with its starting price of €54,390. For EVs, only the versions with the largest battery pack were considered.
The powertrain of the Nissan X-Trail e-Power e-4orce is an interesting one in itself. Like the front-wheel drive X-Trail, this four-wheel drive variant is always electrically powered, but it is not an EV. 213 hp of electric power drives the wheels while the 158 hp 1.5 three-cylinder works as a generator. The KampeerKampioen praised the X-Trail e-Power e-4orce for its handling, the direct power delivery and the easily dosable on-pedal-driving system.
Small but not exactly unimportant side note: ANWB indicates that it could not test all EVs it had on its list because they were not available. The models that are missing this year will still be discussed next year, but which cars are involved has not been announced.
