26 cents to 60 cents per kWh

It makes quite a difference where you connect an electric car to a public charging station. For example, a kWh costs 60 cents in the most expensive municipality and 26 cents in the cheapest. This is evident from figures from Independer.
The highest public charging rates in the Netherlands can be found on Terschelling: there you pay an average of 60 cents per kWh. That is more than double that of the cheapest municipalities, where charging costs an average of 25 cents per kWh. This is the case in Losser, Staphorst and West Maas en Waal, according to an inventory of comparison site Independent. In the top ten places where charging is most expensive, there are no fewer than four Utrecht municipalities. The ten cheapest places are in Overijssel and Gelderland.
The infographic below shows the average charging rates per municipality. In this overview it is immediately apparent that you are well off in Overijssel and large parts of Gelderland and South Holland and that charging an electric car at a public charging station in Limburg is also relatively cheap. In Drenthe, Groningen, North Holland, Utrecht and Flevoland you are almost always relatively expensive.

Saving money
So it pays to see where you can charge the cheapest audience. “If the car has to be charged twice a month (at a public charging station, ed.), you could save up to €50 per month by choosing a strategic charging station,” says a spokesperson for Independer. She calculates with a battery of 70 kWh with which you can cover 440 kilometers.
It is the energy providers such as Vattenfall who determine the prices at the charging station, says the spokesperson. And because the provider can differ per charging station, the rates also differ from each other. In addition to the region, it also matters which charging spot you choose. On the street, electricity is on average the cheapest, namely 36 cents per kWh. An underground parking garage is the most expensive with an average of 43 cents. On average, charging at the public charging station costs 39 cents per kWh. Fast charging points are not included in the analysis. At your own charging point, it costs 40 to 50 cents per kWh. Logically, the EV driver with solar panels at home is cheaper.
