Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG – 2010 – On the dynamometer

There’s work to be done

A wolf in sheep’s clothing. That’s what you can safely call the Mercedes E63 AMG of Jordy Stupers from Vlijmen. A neat sedan where you have to look twice to discover that something special is going on. Like a 6.2-liter V8, without a turbo. We are looking for 525 hp.

Yes, we know Jordy Stupers from an earlier dynamometer. In 2020 he took office with his then pride, an E55 AMG, the 211, with compressor. It passed the test with flying colors and lives up to its manufacturer’s specification. “I am very curious whether this car will meet its factory specification. I’m not completely convinced of that yet”, Jordy looks at the test beforehand. As the former owner of two E’s 55, he now has a feeling for these German runners. He is pre-eminently the man to ask ‘what is the difference between this E63 AMG and your previous E55’. “In short, my current E gives more that AMG feeling, it’s all just a bit tighter, with a faster switching gearbox, for example.”

AMG is Jordy’s hobby

Jordy sees the AMG phenomenon as his hobby. “There is quite a bit of money involved. But then you have something special.” Jordy keeps the costs somewhat under control by purchasing original parts, but assembling them yourself. “No, I’m not a car mechanic, I work for a company that deals in sun blinds. But you just have to do it. Often it can only go one way and it shows itself. You shouldn’t be afraid to start something. And if it goes wrong, it will all work out in the end.”

Rather good dynamometer measurement with E55

Naturally, dynamometer boss Ghisbert van Ginhoven recognizes his former customer. They soon talk about the E55 of the time. Jordy then drove about 20 to 25,000 kilometers per year with the sporty sedan. He had to do something for that, even an engine transplant. “The first engine broke down. Then I transferred an engine block from a CLS to the E-class. Quite a job, but if you have to have something like this done, you will lose a lot more money,” says Jordy. Hats off to such a drastic job. It worked out well with the E55. It effortlessly tapped the impressive total of 484 hp. While he stood for 476 hp. Torque peaks at 704 Nm while the factory specification is 700.

Quite a bit of horsepower in E63

The question is what this new pride will do. Jordy and his brother stand outside at Beek Auto Racing, without hearing protection. “I’m always in the car so I never hear him roar. Then this is a good opportunity.”
The measurement turns out to be a big disappointment. Jordy is bummed like a plug. Of the 525 hp promised by the manufacturer from Stuttgart, quite a few are missing. The counter stops at 440 and the cause of the disappointing performance is not immediately apparent. But Jordy doesn’t let it sit there. “I will get started right away. My feeling beforehand was correct, but I am not happy with it.” We understand that all too well. We get the feeling that we will see Jordy again.
