The Cupra Leon will soon receive a second new powertrain. It is a milder plug-in hybrid powertrain for those who find the existing 245 hp plug version too powerful.

Until recently, the Cupra Leon could only be ordered as a 245 hp plug-in hybrid 1.4 e-Hybrid. We recently wrote that both the Cupra Leon and Cupra Leon Sportstourer will also have a mild hybrid powertrain with a 150 hp and 250 Nm strong 1.5 eTSI. Now AutoWeek can report that the Cupra Leons will get a new engine version. This time it is a second plug-in hybrid powertrain that is one step below the 245 hp plug version.

The Cupra Leon and Leon Sportstourer will also be available in the Netherlands with a 204 hp plug-in hybrid powertrain. You may already know that powertrain from sister model Seat Leon and Volkswagen Golf. It consists of a 150 hp blown 1.4 and a 115 hp electric motor that is powered by a 12.8 kWh battery pack. Where the existing 245 hp plug-in hybrid versions receive the addition ‘VZ’ behind the engine designation 1.4 e-Hybrid, the 204 hp variant has to do without that VZ addition.

The new 204 hp plug-in versions for the Cupra Leons will be available in Essential and Business trim. The Cupra Leon Hatchback with this new powertrain has a fiscal value (list price) of €43,915 as an Essential and €46,915 as a Business. The Cupra Leon Sportstourer 1.4 e-Hybrid has a fiscal value of €45,415 as an Essential and €48,415 as a Business. Please note, this is still excluding costs for roadworthiness.

The Essential trim includes 18-inch alloy wheels, full LED headlights, an infotainment system with 12-inch display, keyless entry and smart adaptive cruise control as standard. The Business version adds things like front and rear parking sensors, automatic parking assistance, an inductive charger and a reversing camera.
