European CEO Ford: ‘We are too big here’

Ford is in for a nice transition in Europe. Not only are well-known models disappearing and the range will become more and more electric in the coming years, Ford will also cut its dealer base.

These are turbulent times for Ford of Europe. The Americans have reviewed their presence on our continent and this is leading to some fundamental changes. Ford wants to be fully electric here in 2030 (five years before it has to), and that will not go without a hitch. New models are being added, such as the new Explorer, and Ford is converting the Cologne plant to EV production, but Ford is also moving to scrap well-known models such as the Fiesta (and almost certainly the Focus) and the withdraws from the old well-known factory in Saarlouis. The changes don’t stop there.

Bee Automotive News explains Martin Sander, who is primarily responsible for Ford’s passenger car branch in Europe, that the dealer base is also undergoing a major overhaul. “In general, our dealer network here is too big, we need to restructure,” says Sander. “Our ideal network is smaller than it is today, but still large enough to reach customers all over Europe.” Ford dealers will therefore disappear in various places, is the tenor of his story. According to Sander, the dealers are already aware of the plans.
