Rivian will also use Tesla charging connection

Another American car manufacturer is going to use Tesla’s so-called North American Charging Standard for its electric cars in the United States. After General Motors and Ford, the smaller Rivian is the next manufacturer to turn its back on the CCS connection.

In Europe, almost all non-Tesla electric cars can easily use Tesla’s Supercharger network, as the CSS charging standard is universally applied in Europe. In the United States, non-Teslas generally use the CCS1 plug, which is different from the CCS2 plug you know here. In the United States, Tesla uses a different fast charging connection for its cars and for the Supercharger network. It is called North American Charging Standard and will also be used by Ford and General Motors. Now the American car manufacturer Rivian joins that list.

The fact that Rivian in the United States (and Canada) is also embracing the North American Charging Standard (NACS) means that owners of the R1T and R1S will soon be able to use Tesla’s Supercharger fast-charging network very easily. From the spring of this year, the R1T and R1S are available with an adapter that should make the connection possible. From 2025, the NACS connections will be delivered ex works.
